Good News

This week in Good News, the Australian has launched free online workouts, lululemon and the United Nations Foundation (UNF) will announce the expansion and Eurovision.

Ballet At Home

The Australian has launched free online workouts for you to try at home. Running for nine weeks launching every Thursday, the videos are available on The Australian Ballet’s Youtubechannel. The slow-paced beginner’s program is taught by ex-ballerina Justine Miles and focuses on barre work and basic ballet technique, soundtracked by a calming classical piano.

For those wishing to shake up their at-home fitness schedule, ballet is a great practice to improve posture, coordination and flexibility. Artistic director David McAllister called the program “A perfect opportunity for anyone who has considered it but never taken the leap (or jeté).” I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling inspired (or, ‘inspiré’, since I majored in French) to pull out a dining chair and get en pointe.

lululemon Partners with the UN on Peace on Purpose

On March 12, lululemon and the United Nations Foundation (UNF) will announce the expansion of their Peace on Purpose program, which equips UN development + humanitarian workers on the front lines of global conflicts with mindfulness tools to care for their own mental and physical well-being, so they can effectively care for others.

As a continuation of this partnership, and in response to the COVID-19 global health crisis, the UNF and lululemon are making these tools accessible for all UN development and humanitarian workers digitally. The content will also be made free for anyone to access, covering issues that are universal to many in this moment in time, including anxiety, adversity, isolation and insomnia.

I still call Australia Home

While international travel seems like a distant dream at the moment, Qantas has released a touching video reminding us to remain inspired about our future travel plans.

With The Australian Girls Choir and The Gondwana National Choir, Qantas has revived Peter Allen’s 1980 song ‘I still call Australia home’ – filmed with the help of the childrens’ family and friends from their own homes across the country.

The uplifting video sees the children come together in a beautiful rendition of the song, and showcases some of Australia’s most stunning landscapes.

“If isolation and travel restrictions have shown Australians anything, it’s how much they value seeing the people and places they love,” Qantas chief customer officer, Stephanie Tully, said. “As domestic and trans-Tasman travel restrictions begin to ease, we hope this short video inspires people to start thinking about their next trip, particularly to destinations that are a little closer to home.”

Eurovision’s Big Night In

For the first time in its 64-year history, the Eurovision song contest will be cancelled, but SBS is uniting fans in an ‘Alternative Eurovision’, announcing a week-long festival of Eurovision from 10th to 17th May!

On weekdays we can catch re-runs of Eurovision finals since 2019, the first year Australia joined the competition. Then on Saturday night, SBS will be premiering ‘Eurovision 2020: Big Night In!’ – a countdown of Australia’s fan-picked favourite acts.

Hosted by music buff Myf Warhurst and comedian Joel Creasey, the TV event will feature special guest appearances from big names across the globe and an exclusive studio performance from Montaigne, giving audiences the first look at the performance she would have performed in Rotterdam.

Then on Sunday night,  ‘Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light’ will be airing to us from The Netherlands, honouring all 41 songs in a non-competitive format with plenty of surprises for at-home viewers.

Viewers are invited to share their socially-distanced party pics as they tune in to watch from the lounge rooms across the country using #SBSEurovision #BigNightIn. They’ve even released virtual zoom backgrounds that make the perfect party backdrop.

Say Hello.
