Throughout the entirety of my degree, I was always apprehensive to pursue an Internship. I had heard the horror stories about friends who spent the most part of their ‘learning immersion’ fetching the team’s half strength, almond piccolos and cleaning showrooms. To be perfectly honest – I’d be lying if I said that there was something highly motivating about a day of unpaid work.

It was the beginning of my last year of uni when I began to experience the utter (and slightly irrational) dread of ‘what am I going to do with my life?’ upon graduating. Having studied a broad Bachelor of Media, I was never pigeon-holed into a specific field, and hence my curiosity of the industry was ever present. I never really knew which path I wanted to take with my degree but public relations was always something of high interest, and an area to which I believed I would excel. This is why I applied for an internship at The Mint Partners – and I’m so glad that I did.
I remember going to lunch on the first day of my internship feeling a mix of emotions. Despite having only experienced a few hours in the day of the life of a PR girl, I could really envision myself forging a prosperous and HAPPY career in this industry. It was an immensely satisfying feeling after years of not truly knowing what I wanted to do with myself. Throughout the entirety of my internship everyone was so lovely and always made you feel completely appreciated for your assistance. The tasks were always different and challenging but not laborious. Working on clients like ASOS and Bollinger was truly amazing, and the diverse range of accounts gave me a taste of everything from fashion to travel and everything in between. Applying the theoretical knowledge acquired at university in a practical environment was the most rewarding experience and the skills obtained were far greater than any you could harvest in a classroom.
Fast-forward eight months and I am a proud employee of Mint – and could not be happier. My internship provided me with an abundance of opportunities, but most importantly, my dream job working for fabulous clients in a DOG FRIENDLY OFFICE! It doesn’t get much better than that. For anyone thinking of applying for an internship – step outside your comfort zone, throw yourself in the deep end, meet great people and reap the rewards.
